Why I Should Work with Kids?

I am starting my 8th year of ministry at NorthRidge.  As far as ministry goes, I don’t believe that I have ever been happier.  I have built relationships with kids and families, both youth and children.  It is very time consuming, and yet at the same time, extremely rewarding.  That being said, I would love to have your help in Children’s ministry.  We have multiple spots open in both AWANA and our Sunday Morning VIP and Kids church ministries.  The neat thing about serving in this area is that there literally is something for everyone.  There are boxes to mark on your Sunday morning connect cards, or you can email me at dwhiteman@northridgehc.com to get more information and ask whatever questions you may have.  In today’s blog, I want to address common fears or concerns you may have, so without further ado, here is my top 5 concerns about youth ministry and why you don’t need to worry about them.

5) They are just kids, do they really need this much help?  Well, yes, yes they do.  Statistically speaking, 85% of people who accept Christ do so before the age of 18.  Children’s ministry is the greatest outreach we have, and sometimes the families are unchurched, so we also have the parents who will benefit.

4)  There are already a lot of volunteers, they probably don’t need me.  UNTRUE!!!!! Most people do not realize how many volunteers it takes to run a children’s program properly.  Everything from holding babies to listening to kids read verses takes people.  There is a job for you, that will be in your comfort zone, which leads me to….

3)  I can’t do children’s ministry because… Yes, you can.  Whatever you think you can’t do, myself and others will help you find something you can do.  You do not have to be a bible scholar to work in children’s ministry.  Our number one requirement is that you LOVE KIDS.  We will work with you to help you with the other stuff.  Most groups have lessons all ready to go.  Please don’t let unnecessary fear stop you from receiving this blessing from God.

2)  It takes up too much time.  Well, this can be true, but it doesn’t have to be.  AWANA is once a week with some prep work required before Wednesday nights.  Kids SS is once a week with some prep work before Sunday Morning.  VIP is once every 5 weeks with some prep working between you and your team.  Kids church is one month every 3-4 month depending on the teams we have.  Kids church prep is more detailed, but each week has videos and songs to download and show and there is typically a craft of game that can be done.  The time spent is investing in the spiritual well-being of kids, something that is more valuable than we will every really know.

1)  Someone else will do it.  While I believe that God will provide just as He always has, I also know that He provides using people like YOU!  Please contact us so we can get you in to the perfect place for you to serve God by serving our children.
