Glory Be To God

1 Corinthians 10:31 “Whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.”

How will we glorify God?

Begin by surrendering the day to God.

This is a surrender of your will to His.  Your prayer is “Not my will but your will be done.”  It is the living out of Proverbs 3:5-6: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart (not in yourself nor others); lean not on your own understanding.  Consider Him in all your ways, and He shall direct your paths.”  We should consider Him as to what we will do: when, where, and how we will do it.

By being spiritually productive.  John 15:1-8

The Father is the Husbandman.  He oversees the spiritual productiveness of the Vine (the Body of Christ).

  • He removes the unfruitful branches.  These are Christians in name only.  He watches them, observes the inner realities of their lives, and removes them.  “Those that do not abide in Jesus are cast away.”  They have no spiritual connection with Him.
  • He purges them that are bearing fruit.  He removes that which is undesirable from them and their lives.  “You are clean through the word.”  His Spirit performs this with the word of God (the sword of the Spirit) which is living, powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, dividing between the soul and the spirit and identifying the thoughts and intents of the heart (Hebrews 4:12).  He renews the mind and thereby transforms our lives that we may reveal what is the good, acceptable, and perfect will of God (Romans 12:2).

Jesus is the Vine.  He is the source of our ability to be spiritually productive.

  • We are only spiritually productive if Jesus abides in us.  “Without Me you can do nothing.”
  • Abiding in Christ is within the power of our will.  “Abide in Me.”
  • Our spiritual productivity is dependent on the degree that we are abiding in Him and His power is working through us.
  • The level of our spiritual productiveness reveals how much we are indeed Jesus’ disciples.
  • The extent to which the Father is glorified is determined by the level of our spiritual productiveness.
